murals

I started painting murals in 2017 when the manager of the restaurant I was waiting tables in suggested I redo the large chalkboard in the middle of the restaurant. It was my first time painting on a large scale, and after two weeks of coming in early and balancing between high top table and bar stool, I fell in love with it and haven’t looked back. Since 2017, I have completed a number of murals, some on doors, some on walls, and some 35 feet in the air. I’m honestly most happy in life when I’m covered in paint. With every mural that I paint, I meet incredible people, forge new friendships, and make my colorful mark for everyone to enjoy.

I have general liability insurance, and am certified to operate ANSI MEWP Operator Boom Lifts 3b, Scissor Lifts 3a.

So…why do you need a mural?

I think EVERYONE could benefit from a mural in their lives. Am I biased? Maybe a little! Murals make me happy, and I love making a living painting them to make other people happy. My happiness aside, there are many reasons that a mural can add something extra and necessary to a public area, commercial space. or a private residence. Below I have listed a few of the many reasons to consider transforming a blank wall into a stunning work of art!

to Increase foot traffic

A cool mural can “draw” a lot of attention to a space. A bright, colorful mural can take a boring wall and transform it into an attraction that people will go out of their way to see. Whether it’s in a space downtown, a restaurant, a store, etc., people love (and need) public art. Gazing up at a glorious mural can make a spot very memorable!

to be Instagrammable, baby!

Let’s face it: social media rules the world. Okay, that may be a bit dramatic, but it’s no secret that people love their socials, and murals can make for a great photo background to be shared across all platforms. Whether it’s a public space, commercial space, or a bnb, people love to pose in front of cool, interactive artwork.

For beautification

There are just so many WALLS in the world we live in, and so many of them could take on new life with the addition of a mural! Murals can make people happy, make people feel safe, and rejuvenate an otherwise dull eyesore into a work of art.

to tell a story

Some of my favorite murals to create are murals that tell a story about a community. People have used wall art as a means of communication and a way to highlight important historical moments since the Cave of Bulls in 15,000 BCE. Murals can bring a sense of pride and identification to a community, and can highlight many important aspects of it such as wildlife, recreation, and historical events.

to highlight a service

Using a mural to highlight goods and services that your business provides is also a great marketing strategy! Anyone would find it hard to turn away a piece of pizza if a big, eye catching, delicious slice of peperoni was painted on the side of a pizza place, or question who the best mechanic in town is with a stunning, crisp logo painted on the side of a mechanic shop. If you love what you do, use a mural to show it off!

because you simply want one!

While there are plenty of reasons to get a mural to improve foot traffic, gain attention, etc., you can also get a mural because you just plain want one! Just like you don’t have to wait on colder weather to purchase the sweatshirt you’ve been eyeballing, you can light up your space with mural whenever you want just to make you smile!

Got questions?

To the right, you’ll find some questions that might arise when you start your mural journey! If you have any more specific questions or inquiries, please head over to the contact page and shoot me an email!

  • I price my murals on cost per square foot, including supplies. Size, level of detail, and location are the three biggest factors in pricing out a mural. These factors determine how long a mural will take to design and complete, the quantity of supplies needed to do so, and any extra hands I may need for the job.

Not included in price: travel fees, sealant, or equipment costs (lifts, scaffolding, etc.)

  • It varies! Mural timelines depend on the environment in which the mural is being painted, the availability of supplies, and the detail of the design. For example, a colorful, highly detailed mural is going to take significantly more time that one that features only a few colors and is relatively simple. For outdoor murals in particular, weather can also play a big role in timeline, and should always be taken into account when planning a mural!

  • When it comes to planning murals, I believe being thorough is better than being quick. My process starts with a fun, brainstormy conversation about general idea and, location permitting, a visit to the site (or at least a well taken photo). After I have more information, I will provide a rough quote, as well as a few written ideas. I accept payment in three stages: 25% upon beginning the project, 25% upon starting the actual mural, and 50% upon completion. After a deposit is paid, I will have rough sketches to show in 5-7 days. Once we have a direction, I will refine the idea and prepare it to be transferred to the wall, as well as collect and secure supplies for the project. I will then settle in and paint the mural as closely as I can to the decided upon design, and finally apply a sealant (if agreed upon). Like I said before, every mural is unique, but this is my general process for the murals that I design and paint!

  • I absolutely can! I can also paint pre-designed, corporate designs when necessary.

zarzaur law mural alley

I designed and executed this mural for my first ever mural festival in Pensacola, Florida! The “Mural Alley” event was put on by Zarzaur Law Firm, and was a part of Pensacola’s city wide arts festival Foo Foo Fest. I had an AMAZING time creating this piece over the 2.5 day event, and was lucky to be painting next to some other incredible mural artists. This piece is 5x5 feet, painted with exterior house paints, and painted on recycled billboard vinyl. I can’t wait for my next mural festival event!

Fairhope Arts Alley: The Tower

Words cannot express what it is like to have been able to work on these murals in my beautiful home town. Fairhope is a stunning place, and it is nothing short of an honor to have donned my helmet and harness and painted these murals in the upcoming “Fairhope Arts Alley”! This first mural is titled “Fairhope’s Familiars” and features a tall, 30 foot tower of some of our local wildlife on the @fairhopehampton downtown. My hope is that it will serve as a little reminder of part of what makes Fairhope so special; our wildlife and natural resources. This project took two weeks, is about 380 square feet, and required a boom lift to complete.

Fairhope Arts Alley: The corral

This mural is in the opposite side of the parting garage to the tower, and features a postcard style mural that highlights Fairhope’s Arts! As this is going to be the “Arts Alley”, each letter is filled with a different “Art” that you might find around Fairhope. Lettered murals are always a fun challenge, and I’m so happy with how this one came out! This mural is about 220 square feet, and took around 9 days to complete.

pacific kava bar

I seriously couldn’t have asked for a cuter location to paint a mural in! This mural I painted for the new location of the cool and welcoming Pacific Kava Bar in Pensacola, Florida was truly a treat from start to finish. Keri and Alex, the owners, were dream clients that gave great feedback and awesome creative direction. They are so passionate about what they do, and have created a lovely community of lovely people around them. This mural is about 120 square feet, and took about 4.5 days to execute. This new location is going to be at 415 West Belmont Street in Pensacola, and the CUTEST retro building you ever did see! Give them a follow on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with the progress of this new spot, and check out their amazing brand!

kleban properties mural

What a project to remember! I was hired by Kleban Properties to paint this large mural on the side of the Rotolo’s in Fairhope, AL. The mural features a recolored pitcure of Fairhope from about 100 years ago, when the roads by the bay were still dirt, and the Fairhope Casino overlooked the waves. I worked with the Fairhope History Museum on recoloring the old black and white photograph, and after mocking it up in Photoshop, I used a doodle grid to sketch it onto the wall. With the help of friends and family, we battled the heat, and got this mural put up over the course of about 12-13 days. It was so much fun and I got to meet so many amazing people. You can check out my contact page to see a little clip of me talking about the mural, and if you’re ever in Fairhope, go an check it out!

the Sun shines over Foley

I was hired by the amazing non profit Foley Mainstreet to co-create this 7 panel mural with the help of Foley High School, Middle School, and Home School students. This experience was incredible, and I have to say, the students were the highlight of the whole project! Panel two was completed by the Home School Students, with the help of wonderful human/artist Jessica Kinsey, who I met with twice a week to work with. Panel four was completed by Mr. Rothering and the art club at Foley Middle School, and panel six was completed by Mrs. TJ Smith and Mr. Tracy Wilhelm and their art students. I couldn’t be more grateful for this opportunity, and more stunned by how incredible the outcome of this project is.

“Linda’s lookout”

“Linda’s Lookout” is my first residential mural! My lovely client, Linda, wanted a little slice of Fairhope Bay in her own backyard. This piece is on a brick wall over a backyard bar that over looks a pool. We wanted to keep the colors nice and soft as opposed to a typical bright sunset, and it yielded a very beautiful and unique result!

THE WATERFRONT: PART I

I was lucky enough to be able to paint 3 murals at Panini Pete and Nick Dimario’s new restaurant, The Waterfront! For this first mural, we built a color palette around the existing décor of the restaurant, and then I designed a linework driven design that features local wildlife and restaurant themed elements, and wrapped it around the entry way columns at the restaurant. The mural is a little out of style for me and it was really fun to think through something a little more modern and crisp!

THE WATERFRONT: PART Ii

This second mural at The Waterfront was a 7’x7’ compass rose that has been dubbed “The Jubilee Compass”. This one was fun to design, and a little challenging to execute with the texture of the wall. I am very happy with how it came out, and I really like the more rendered elements paired with the line work elements.

THE WATERFRONT: PART Iii

The third and final mural is a photo op spot near the front of the restaurant that stand about 7’x7’ and features some local wildlife and a punchy view of Mobile Bay, as well as the twin docks out the back of the restaurant. I had a lot of fun putting it together, and it has already served as a great backdrop for many, many photographs you can check out on their IG @thewaterfrontdaphne!

ed’s seafood shed, II

I was very sad to learn about the original Ed’s Seafood Shed on the Causeway catching on fire, and even more sad to learn that the murals that I painted there burned with it. Needless to say, I was very excited when the owners, Panini Pete and Nick Dimario, asked me to come a imortalize the original Ed’s at the new location. As always, the team was welcoming and the Ed’s atmosphere is second to none, and I am SO excited to go a grab a bushwhacker at the beautiful bar ASAP!

The Grand hotel

I was asked by the beautiful and prestigious Grand Hotel Resort and Spa in Point Clear, Alabama to create a mural in the employee break room that captured the spirit and color of the Grand Hotel! The employees at the Grand Hotel are truly what make the Grand, well, grand, and it was an honor to be able to leave my mark on this historic property.

mobile arts council

I recently completed a power box mural for the Mobile Arts Council that I have dubbed the Pitcher Plant Box! Where I live in lower Alabama, we are right at the foot of the Alabama watershed and the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta. Because of this, we have a very unique and biodiverse ecosystem literally at our back door. One of the unique features of this ecosystem are the local Pitcher Plants bogs! Weird and wonderful, these carnivorous plants are plants are a vital part of the environment here that we are lucky to have, so I felt it was only right to highlight them!

Vallarta

Vallarta Mexican Restaurant is a local favorite Mexican restaurant located in Foley, Alabama where I painted a mural that encompassed most of the right side of the restaurant! We opted to go with a beach scene as Puerto Vallarta is a beach, and Vallarta is located on the way to scenic Gulf Shores. As usual, I met some AMAZING people, including the staff and owners, who were sweet and accommodating, and the food is second to NONE.

Kind Café

I recently completed this Fairhope themed mural in Kind Café downtown Fairhope. Kind Café is a coffee and bagel shop on a mission to spread kindness with their product and their community work. They are a lovely group of people determined to make a difference, and it was an absolute pleasure working beside them during this project!

b-bob’s mobile:

2020 Pride mural

In June of 2020, Rainbow Mobile - a local and incredible LGBTQ+ organization - reached out to me about designing and painting a mural on the side of B-Bob’s, a fantastic drag bar in Mobile. I was assisted over the course of the month by Sarah Rutledge Fischer, a dear friend and fellow artist who runs the Fairhope branch of Prism United, an amazing organization that provides support and community for LGBTQ+ youth. This project was as rewarding as it is bright and colorful, and I will forever be thankful for the folks at Rainbow Mobile for including me in this epic, historical project.’

Rotolo’s pizza

*Design provided*

Rotolo’s was my first experience doing a set of corporate wall art. Rotolo’s provided the artwork, and I replicated it in the corporate colors, style, and placement in which I was directed. The staff at Rotolo’s was helpful and accommodating!

sunset pointe

Sunset Pointe was the first place that I was asked to paint a mural! I was waiting tables after graduation, and my manager suggested that the chalkboard in the restaurant could use a refresh. I offered up my skillset, spent a few mornings before shifts balancing on the bar and high top tables, and painted my first mural. I was later asked to do the Octopus door and the “Crow’s Nest” sign (seen in the background). Pete Blohme, the owner of Sunset Pointe (and Ed’s and Squid Ink) is an inspiring local celebrity chef and business owner, and has been a pleasure to work for and with; I will always thank him for letting me take a brush to that chalkboard!

ed’s seafood shed:

Kid’s area mural

The second of Pete’s restaurants that I painted a mural in was Ed’s Seafood Shed! It was really fun to get to do something so fun and colorful, and having an “office” outside over looking the beautiful Mobile bay was a treat. Did I get very sunburned? You bet I did! Was it totally worth it because the kids loved it and the staff were absolutely wonderful? You bet for sure! Unfortunately, due to a fire in the dining room, this mural is no longer able to be seen. It was an amazing experience, though, and I learned a lot!

squid ink

Squid Ink is an eclectic bar in Mobile, Alabama that serves amazing cocktails made by award winning bartenders and out of the box food! The first mural that I did there was on a set of doors in the entrance, and later I was asked to do a set of quotes around the back of the restaurant. This establishment is so much fun and has a great energy, definitely worth checking out!

ed’s seafood shed:

Talisker Whisky Challenge

This fun and challenging map mural at Ed’s Seafood Shed highlighted the Talisker Whiskey Challenge, a cross ocean row that is a true test of strength and endurance. Before the fire at Ed’s, an actual oar from one of the cross Atlantic races was mounted diagonally across the mural. It was really cool, and I love painting maps, plus it was great to be in the presence of the amazing staff of Ed’s again!
